A personal note from the photographer: As soon as I had my head under the icy waves I had conjured up an image of a perfect profile set against a minimal background, revelling in the stories the scars told. It took 2 weeks to get the pass I had in my mind’s eye. Led by the bravest fish in the sea, the pilot fish, and dappled in morning light, it was better than I could have asked for. I hope it stands as a testament to the beauty of these incredible animals, who deserve so much better from us.
