This image was taken in Lake Thun, Switzerland, 1985.

A personal note from the photographer: A floating raft in at dawn in fog-draped Lake Thun high in the Swiss Alps implies a human presence in an otherworldly scene.

I was on assignment for National Geographic to photograph the Alps, and was delighted when the fog set in and created an ethereal mood—a welcome change from the craggy mountains usually bathed in sunlight.
